“Let’s assign the Japanese government officials to work regularly on the Senkaku Islands. The Islands are Japan’s own territories historically and under international law, and therefore the Japanese government is qualified to do so. This is a domestic matter in Japan, and accordingly the government can put it into practice anytime, even tomorrow, without any consultations with other countries.” This is what I have been advocating for a long time. Now that I gained support and approval from my colleagues, I have decided to take concrete actions.
I repeat, this is a domestic matter in Japan, and so, once the Japanese government decides to assign officials on the Senkaku Islands, the assignment will easily be carried out. In order to cope with China’s recent hegemonic acts in East Asia, Japan should respond in a visible manner and accomplish ‘de facto’ control of the Islands by Japan. For that purpose, there is no other way except showing China a scene of the Japanese government officials residing on the Islands.
