China is currently implementing a policy to compel the people of its Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to use the Chinese language at schools. What a cruel order it is to ban the use of their mother language, but this is actually happening. An international conference for the campaign to protect the Mongolian language was held at the Diet Members’ Office Building of the House of Representatives on November 19. I greeted them from the stage, and encouraged them saying, “With my sincere appreciation to all of you for your efforts to help your ethnic compatriots in China, I am confident that the Japanese Diet and the government will offer you the best possible cooperation and support to you.”
Mr. Hiroshi Ueno, a member of the House of Representatives, also made a speech and encouraged the participants from the bottom of his heart. Then, to my surprise, a Mongolian abruptly appeared on the display screen connected to the internet. He was H.E. Mr. Tsakhia Elbegdorj who was Former President of Mongolia. He was Mr. Ueno’s classmate when he studied at Harvard Kennedy School. The Former President of Mongolia appealed to the Mongolian people who attended the conference that he would do his best for the sake of Mongolians in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in China as his compatriots. Mongolians in the Region belong to the same ethnic group of Mongolia which is a neighboring country of China.
I have repeatedly criticized the Chinese government for its inhuman oppression of the ethnic minority groups in China in my blog, and there is nothing more I can say. I can only hope that President Xi Jinping and his staff will become aware of the inhumanness of their policy and recover their peaceful and bright China, and that they will notice how wonderful it is to coexist with ethnic groups.
