My supporters’ annual New Year gathering was held in Asakura City. In front of 500 participants, I reported on some crucial issues which I had tackled as Minister of the Environment last year, referring to the measures to cope with the climate change, the method to control fluorinated gases, the removal of marine plastic pollution, charging for shopping plastic bags, etc. In addition, I briefly talked about the recent reconstruction activities of the disaster areas hit by the torrential rains in Asakura City, the recent discussion on how to deal with the treated water stored at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, latest update on the new coronavirus infection, and the issue of inviting China’s President Xi Jinping’s to Japan as a ‘state guest’. Mr. Shigeharu Aoyama, as an honorable guest, delivered a lecture on politics in Japan in the perspective of international relations, and a speech in support of my political activities.
In the afternoon, Mr. Aoyama and I moved to Fukuoka City, and there Mr. Aoyama delivered his lecture dealing with Japan’s domestic affairs and diplomacy. The lecture covered a wide variety of political issues in both the Eastern and the Western countries, from past to present. Together with Mr. Makoto Oniki, Member of the House of Representatives and of the LDP, we discussed and expressed our opinions during his lecture. His lecture lasted one and a half hours. The audience of about 300 seemed to be truly impressed by his lecture.
