After the Enthronement Ceremony of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito on October 22, the once-in-a-lifetime ceremony called ‘Daijo-sai’ was held at the Imperial Palace from the evening of November 14 to the dawn of November 15, where new emperor served newly-harvested rice to the deities.
Just before the Ceremony, I visited the Imperial Palace alone to extend my deep gratitude to His Majesty the Emperor. While it has been two months since I resigned my position as Minister of the Environment, I was awarded a small gold sake cup by His Majesty the Emperor for my work as Minister of the Environment for about one year until early September. Following the Japanese seniority system, on behalf of other ministers who were also awarded the same cups, I left my short message in the guest book to extend our deep gratitude to His Majesty the Emperor.
I felt tense in the solemn atmosphere.
