My remarks on ‘the need for discharging the treated water—stored at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station—into the Pacific Ocean’ are now widely known in South Korea, and my remarks were reported in the Dong-A Ilbo. When I first commented on this issue at a press conference in early September, my remarks were sensationally reported in and out of Japan by the mass media, but it seems that my intention has gradually been understood. At present, the Korean mass media’s comments are not necessarily unfavorable.
The Dong-A Ilbo’s article describes that ‘he made remarks with his full responsibility as the State Minister, a Diet member, and a politician’. I’m glad that what I meant to say had been accurately conveyed to the writer.
The relationship between Japan and South Korea should not be left as it is. I sincerely hope it will be recovered as soon as possible.
