The G7 Environmental Ministers Meeting was held in Metz, Lorraine, France on May 5-6. The meeting covered a wide range of themes including climate change, marine plastic pollution, and biodiversity. It was considered to be a preliminary meeting for the ‘G20 Ministerial Meeting on Energy Transitions and Global Environment for Sustainable Growth’ which will be held in Karuizawa Town, Nagano Prefecture, concurrently with the 2019 G20 Summit under the Japanese Presidency in Osaka this coming June. I attended the sessions of this meeting, and also had bilateral meetings with the US, France and the EU, respectively. I believe we were able to fully exchange our views.
At the meeting, I delivered my speech with an emphasis on the Japanese people’s willingness to contribute to the world peace and prosperity under Japan’s new Imperial era ‘Reiwa’.
