The general assembly commemorating the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the Fukuoka Prefectural Office of the Japan Conference (Nippon Kaigi) was held on June 3. As a guest speaker, I briefly explained to the audience about the current domestic and international issues as follows: (1) various measures have been carried out by prefectural and municipal governments to restore the heavy rain disaster areas in the northern region of Kyushu; (2) the forthcoming US-North Korea Summit is expected to result in the denuclearization of North Korea in the long run; (3) China, which is behind North Korea as its strong supporter, is seeking for its hegemony in East Asia, and thus, its expansionism in the region should carefully be watched; and (4) with regard to the amendment of the Constitution of Japan, a clause of the Self-Defense Force should be specified in Article 9, and in the preface, proper expressions of the country’s beautiful features and stable polity should be emphasized.

It is noted that the Japan Conference (Nippon Kaigi) has steadily been engaged in the nation-wide campaigns for the amendment of the Constitution of Japan and the national referendum for it.
